CANTON, S.D. (KELO) -- Justin Rackley decided three people's fates when he fired a gun at a Sioux Falls get-together. On Friday, he is learning his own fate at the Lincoln County Courthouse in Canton.

In June of 2024, Rackley murdered Daniel Kemnitz, Kellie Reaves, and Michael Thompson. Rackley had just met the victims that night.

The hearing began with victim impact statements. Rackley looked down as 10 people took the stand to talk about Kemnitz, Reaves, and Thompson. The witnesses included parents, a brother, and a daughter, along with family and friends.

Judge Rachel Rasmussen oversaw the four-day trial in August, where a jury found Rackley guilty on all five counts -- three counts for first-degree murder and two counts of aggravated assault.
