A Quebec coroner will examine the circumstances surrounding the deaths on Aug. 27 of a woman and her five-year-old son after the car they were in was struck by a long-haul tractor-trailer on Highway 30 in Boucherville.
But in announcing the inquest, Quebec Public Security Minister Ian Lafrenière made it clear on Friday that the inquiry will also focus on the wider problem of the growing number of fatal accidents involving tractor-trailers on the province’s highways.
“Several fatal accidents involving heavy trucks have occurred in recent months,” wrote Lafrenière on his X account. “That’s why I’ve asked the coroner to launch a public inquiry to shed light on the causes and circumstances surrounding the tragic accident that occurred Aug. 27 on Highway 30 that cost the lives of Tanya Lalond
