PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — A day after a demonstration from students and staff on campus, Brown University’s president responded to a memo the White House sent to Brown and eight other schools.

The memo details new requirements such as limiting the amount of international students, banning the use of race, gender and religion in hiring and admissions and freezing tuition rates.

In a letter to the Brown Community, President Christina Paxson addressed the “Compact for Academic Excellence in Higher Education” memo nd the July agreement with the federal government that freed up research funds.

In relation to the memo, Paxson says she will look for more public comment before responding.

A response to the memo is due on October 20.
