KINGSTON — A city councillor is to introduce a proposed bylaw she says will make playgrounds safer for children.
Sydenham District Coun, Conny Glenn is to put forward a motion at the next city council meeting for a bylaw allowing the city to designate playgrounds as “ child safety zones.”
Unlike existing community safety zones in place around schools, the new designation would be specific to areas where children play.
“So most community safety zones are related to traffic. This is related to things like playgrounds and splash pads and those kinds of areas that are used by by kids,” Glenn said.
“I’m asking for a certain sort of boundary around those zones,” she said. “ So, it would be considered a sensitive use zone, and it would be 75 metres from any public playground, school, day
