Letitia James prosecuted: Yesterday, President Donald Trump escalated his avowed goal to prosecute his political opponents when federal attorneys indicted New York Attorney General Letitia James with two counts of mortgage fraud . The indictment, signed by acting U.S. Attorney Lindsey Halligan, who took over for acting U.S. Attorney Eric Siebert after Trump fired him for refusing to charge James, alleges that James falsely claimed that she intended to use a Virginia home as her secondary residence in order to secure favorable mortgage conditions.

James denies wrongdoing, calling the indictment politically motivated. “These charges are baseless, and the president’s own public statements make clear that his only goal is political retribution at any cost,” James said in a statement
