LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Verizon customers throughout the Los Angeles County area reported an outage on Friday morning that affected their cellular and internet service, which the company said was caused by vandals.

"We are aware of an issue impacting some mobile and wireless home internet customers in the Southern California area," Verizon said in a statement provided to ABC7. "Our engineers are engaged and we are working quickly to solve the issue. Please visit our Check Network Status page for updates on service in your area. We know how much people rely on Verizon and apologize for any inconvenience. We appreciate your patience."

Verizon said some service has already been restored, and the provider is hopeful most of the service will be restored by midnight.
