ALBANY, N.Y. (NEXSTAR) — A federal grand jury indicted New York State Attorney General Letitia James in the Eastern District of Virginia over a 2020 loan for a home on Peronne Avenue in Norfolk, Virginia. Federal prosecutors charged her with two felonies, claiming James lied to banks by misrepresenting the property as her secondary residence, securing her better loan terms than she should have gotten for an investment property.
Announcing the charges, U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia Lindsey Halligan said the facts and law are clear, adding, “No one is above the law.” If found guilty, James would face up to 30 years in prison and a fine of up to $1 million on each count, along with forfeiture of property, according to the Department of Justice.
