Port Angeles – While it’s true that the years-long Western Port Angeles Harbor cleanup project has still not begun to actually clean up anything in that portion of the harbor, the process has entered a new phase.
As of last month, the Harbor cleanup has entered the “design the cleanup” phase which, according to the Washington State Department of Ecology, is expected to take around 4 years as the liable parties create the cleanup engineering design. This stage also includes logistics such as permitting and contracting.
Ecology says the extended timeline is due to the cleanup’s complexity and size, and the length of different permitting processes.
