NORA, Ill. — Recovery efforts are underway east of Dubuque following a train derailment in the town of Nora in Jo Daviess County.
The derailment, which occurred yesterday, led to the evacuation of about 100 residents living within 1,000 feet of the site. Authorities reported that two of the 17 derailed cars were leaking ethanol. The leaks have been contained, but cleanup is still required.
"Nora will be shut down until further notice, and we'll keep the public abreast of what that looks like, but for sure for the next 12 to 18 hours coming through Nora is not going to be able to happen," Jim Klinefelter, Carroll County EMA Director, said.
No injuries have been reported. Officials from the Canadian National Railroad are assisting the displaced families.
