The Supreme Court on Friday indicated that it may consider allowing the use of green firecrackers in Delhi-NCR for limited hours during Diwali and other major festivals, as it heard the ongoing matter on the region’s firecracker ban imposed in the wake of the rising pollution levels in and around the capital during festivals in recent years.
A bench led by Chief Justice of India BR Gavai was hearing pleas related to restrictions on manufacturing, sale, and use of firecrackers in the National Capital Region.
The bench observed that while environmental concerns must be protected, there should also be "a balance between the right to celebrate and the right to a clean environment".
Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing for the Union government, submitted a set of recommendations sug
