ALBANY, N.Y. — New York State Police Superintendent Steven G. James announced the line of duty death of retired New York State Trooper Mark A. Ondus, who died Thursday at the age of 56.
Trooper Ondus passed away from an illness stemming from his assignment in and around the World Trade Center site following the terrorist attack on September 11, 2001.
Ondus retired from the New York State Police on Jan. 20, 2021, after 26 years of service. He was last assigned to Troop T, SP Dunkirk.
He is survived by his wife, Tammy, his sons, Charles, Sebastian and Nikolas, and his daughter, Tauni.
Service arrangements for Ondus were announced by State Police on Sunday.
Calling hours will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Revive Wesleyan at South Creek in Eden. The funeral service will also be there,
