A Boulder man pleaded guilty to child abuse charges on Wednesday after police said he reportedly left second-degree burns on a 3-year-old in January of 2024.
James Xavier Chavez-Guerra, 21, pleaded guilty to one count of child abuse resulting in serious bodily injury with a sexual factor basis, one count of criminal attempt to commit sexual assault on a child and one count of crime of violence, according to Boulder County District Attorney’s Office spokesperson Shannon Carbone.
Chavez-Guerra remains in custody on a $20,000 bond after his arrest in January 2024.
“The victims in this case were supportive of the plea, and we deeply appreciate their courage and strength throughout this difficult process,” DA Michael Dougherty said in a statement.
On Jan. 31, 2024, Boulder police responded
