A 13-year-old boy has been charged with murder following the death of his 11-year-old friend in a Hudson Valley home on the morning of Thursday, Oct. 9.

According to ABC 7 NY , initial reports claimed that the 11-year-old boy was playing with a gun when it went off, causing him to accidentally shoot himself. However, on Friday, police said that it was actually the 13-year-old who was responsible for the shooting.

The incident took place at a residence in Newburgh, New York. A gun was found at the home, and three juveniles of interest were identified after police investigated.

Of the three juveniles of interest, the 13-year-old was arrested and now faces second-degree murder charges. Details surrounding the circumstances of the shooting and the victim’s identity remain unknown.
