JEFFERSON CITY — As the federal government shutdown slogs past the 10-day mark, a critical food and nutrition program for low-income moms and babies is receiving money to stay afloat in Missouri until at least the end of the month.

The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services said Friday that it had secured funding from the U.S. Department of Agriculture that will ensure no immediate interruption to the program, which assists an estimated 96,000 Missourians per month.

Final details on the amount of money coming to Missouri were not immediately available, agency spokeswoman Lisa Cox said.

“While this funding provides some stability, we acknowledge that information and circumstances are changing rapidly. DHSS is working tirelessly to ensure the continuity of services,” she said.
