The Quebec government is launching a new daycare registration system in November, aiming to improve fairness and transparency as it replaces the current La Place 0-5 portal.

Instead of a first-come, first-served approach, the new system will prioritize families based on their child’s start date, not when they registered.

The old system will be shut down as of Oct. 16 and only the files of children born before that date – waiting for a place – will be automatically transferred from La Place 0-5 to the new portal. If a child is not born yet, parents will have to register again after the birth.

There are still more than 30,000 children waiting for a place in Quebec daycares.
