ROCK HILL, S.C. — A shooting that unfolded at the Galleria Mall in Rock Hill was an act of self-defense, according to the Rock Hill Police Department .

Officers said they responded to the mall around 2 p.m. and found a 26-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the shoulder. He was taken to the hospital for treatment, while the shooter was found nearby and detained.

However, the department said its investigation revealed more about what happened. Police said the shooter was accosted by the man verbally and physically. The shooter used his own gun lawfully for protection. Because of this, the department said no charges will be filed.
