CHARLOTTE, N.C. — WCNC Charlotte has chosen to use this mugshot because of the nature of the alleged crimes.

A Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools employee was arrested Friday, accused by police of attempted murder .

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department said its domestic violence unit launched an investigation into 43-year-old Cheryl Harris Gates. She was eventually arrested and charged with attempted murder, stalking, damage to property, and contaminating food or drink to render one mentally incapacitated or physically helpless.

CMPD said the incident central to its investigation did not happen on school property and did not involve a student or another staff member.

WCNC Charlotte has reached out to the school district for more information about Gates' employment status.
