Another Grand Forks nonprofit is in the news. This time, it’s the Northlands Rescue Mission, whose executive director was abruptly fired last week, allegedly without warning.

In January 2024, Circle of Friends Animal Shelter announced it was facing financial shortfalls and was “in survival mode.” Its director was fired later that month. Also in January 2024, the Herald outlined how the African Arts Arena dissolved in 2022 following an investigation focused on a harassment accusation.

Last month, Red River Valley Community Action ceased daily operations, victimized by financial concerns. The Herald reported on Sept. 4 that “a lack of financial expertise made them unable to interpret the organization’s situation and determine an appropriate path forward.”
