Queenslanders can expect to swelter through the weekend with high temperatures and severe thunderstorms predicted across the state.

Bureau of Meteorology senior forecaster Liam Smart described it as a "mixed bag" of weather.

"We've got the chance of severe thunderstorms across south-east Queensland with the chance of damaging winds and some large hail," he said.

"That's from areas from the Gold Coast up towards the Sunshine Coast and inland towards Toowoomba.

"Otherwise, there are broad thunderstorm areas across the rest of the state in a band all the way up to the far north-west and that's associated with an inland trough."

Brisbane is expected to reach 32 degrees Celsius today.
