A pedestrian died after being hit by a car on Athens Highway in Gwinnett County, and police say the driver left the scene.

What Happened: The crash occurred around 10:50 p.m. on Oct. 6 on Athens Highway between Cooper Road and Rosebud Road near Lawrenceville. The pedestrian died at the scene.
Police found the vehicle that first hit the pedestrian and charged the driver with fleeing the scene of a fatal collision. But investigators believe the victim’s body lay in the road for several minutes after that first crash, and other cars may have hit the person without knowing it.
