A Henry County Sheriff’s Office detention officer was arrested and fired after an investigation found he brought illegal drugs into the county jail.

What Happened: Jail staff found suspected contraband, which led investigators to Officer Miles J. Moxie. He now faces two criminal charges: violating his oath as a public officer and violating Georgia’s drug laws.

Sheriff Reginald B. Scandrett fired Moxie immediately after the arrest.

The Big Picture: When law enforcement officers break the law, it damages public trust in the entire system. Contraband in jails can lead to violence, overdoses, and security problems that put both inmates and staff at risk.

Sheriff Scandrett said his office will investigate wrongdoing “regardless of where the investigation may lead.”
