Jammu, Oct 10: As the deadline for filing nominations for the four vacant Rajya Sabha seats in Jammu and Kashmir approaches, political parties are intensifying efforts to prevent cross-voting and ensure their respective house remain in order. The last date for nominations is October 13.
According to highly placed sources, the National Conference (NC) is poised to secure three seats, while the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), with 28 MLAs, falls short of two votes needed for one seat.
The J&K Assembly comprises 42 MLAs from NC, 6 from Congress, 5 independents, one CPI(M) MLA—MY Tarigami—and Sajjad Lone, the sole MLA from the People’s Conference. The BJP holds 28 MLAs.
Based on these numbers, NC is almost certain to win three seats, but cross-voting could jeopardise its chances
