Family members of a man who died during a July confrontation with police are demanding an independent prosecutor be assigned to the case after the death of one of the officers and the resignation of the department's chief.
"There have been too many troubling and questionable events transpiring in the matter that warrant outside investigation," attorney Timothy Bradl wrote on behalf of the Gigliotti family.
Members of the Haverhill Police Department were trying to restrain Francis Gigliotti, 43, on July 11, after they said he was acting erratically and weaving through traffic, nearly getting hit by passing cars, before police arrived at the scene.
