BURLINGTON, N.D. (KMOT) - A sea of red, white and blue filled the gym at Burlington-Des Lacs Elementary Friday as they celebrated earning a Blue Ribbon School designation.

The honor goes to schools across the country for high academic performance and bridging achievement gaps.

State Superintendent Kirsten Baesler, who was confirmed earlier this week as Assistant Secretary of Education in the Trump administration , joined the school in celebrating.

Principal Kayla Anderson said they applied for the award last year, and that being selected shows the dedication of the school staff.

“Everybody’s working for every student. We always put students first, and I think the pride in our school has just escalated because of this award as well,” said Anderson.
