Cornwall council will receive an update during its regular meeting next week with details about a revised timeline for the release of the 2026 draft budget.

A September report to council provided a detailed breakdown of the budget process that Cornwall will follow . At the time, staff indicated Mayor Justin Towndale would release the draft 2026 budget on Oct. 14, following changes to the process aligned with provincial strong mayor powers .

That timeline has since shifted.

“The mayor has directed staff to prepare a 2026 budget that achieves a four per cent levy increase (excluding police services),” reads a statement in a report coming to council on Oct. 14 .
