MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) - The Henry Vilas Zoo said it is preparing to say goodbye to two of its grizzly bears later this month.
Since 2015, grizzly bears Ash and Lexi have called the Henry Vilas Zoo home. They are now 14 years old.
During their time at the zoo, they taught guests about the difference between hibernation and torpor.
A torpor is a time that helps bears save energy when food is scarce during the winter months, zoo officials stated.
They will be both be available for visits leading up to their departure. Zoo officials said Ash and Lexi are heading to another AZA-accredited institution.
According to Facebook post by the zoo, there will be new polar bears coming to the facility in the coming months to join 26-year-old Berit.
