INDIANAPOLIS -- Purdue University in Indianapolis is continuing to make its own space in downtown Indy.

On Friday, the school announced its intent to purchase the Canal Square Apartments right next to its campus. The 50-year campus master plan is off to a fast start for the University.

After opening a student center earlier this year and currently working on an academic center, the university announced it wants to buy the Canal Square Apartments to give more living space for its students.

"Our aspirations long-term are to serve 15,000 students, said Evan Hawkins, senior developer for Purdue University in Indianapolis. "The canal square serves as a component or a piece of that greater vision as we grow and continue to expand our mission at Purdue University."
