INDIANAPOLIS — Purdue University on Friday, Oct. 10 announced plans to acquire a downtown Indianapolis apartment complex.

The school's board of trustees approved its request to purchase Canal Square Apartments from the Purdue Research Foundation.

The four story, 400,000-square-foot complex, which currently has almost 500 beds in over 300 units, is located at 359 N. West St. , near West New York Street.

The university highlighted the location as "a short walk from academic buildings on the existing 28-acre footprint of Purdue's expansion in Indianapolis."

Current tenants' leases will be honored through the transition, the university said, with a long-term plan to provide student housing.
