WASHINGTON — Outdoor gear retailer Orvis plans to close nearly half of its retail locations nationwide in the coming months, the company confirmed on Friday.

Orvis President Simon Perkins said in a statement that the sporting goods retailer will close 31 stores and five outlets in early 2026. The company, which was founded in 1856, currently has 64 stores and seven outlets in at least 28 states.

“Since 1856, Orvis has inspired generations of adventure in the field and on the water.
