TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and one of the biggest things women should know is that early detection can save lives.
In May of 2024, Christina Rea's doctor told her something no woman wants to hear: the third-grade teacher in Clay City had breast cancer. Thankfully, she was diagnosed early. "I have had mammograms for about five years, and I found the cancer on a routine screening, and we were able to get started when it was still stage one, so that was very nice," said Rea.
Rea did 6 months of chemotherapy, followed by surgery and radiation at Terre Haute Regional Hospital.
On April 1st, 2025, Rea found out she was cancer-free.
