FLORENCE, Ore. - A dangerous incident unfolded in Lane County on Thursday evening when a suspect attempted to evade arrest on U.S. Forest Service land north of Florence, according to the Lane County Sheriff's Office.
LCSO officials said deputies encountered Tyler Ashton Leavitt, 41, of Indiana, who had a warrant for his arrest, at about 11:30 p.m. on Oct. 9 on Herman Cape Road. Leavitt allegedly accelerated his pickup toward a deputy, striking a patrol car, sheriff's officials said. Authorities said that a second deputy fired at Leavitt, but he was not hit. The first deputy managed to dive out of the way, sheriff's authorities said. LCSO officials said that Leavitt then led deputies on a chase, ramming a patrol car and causing significant property damage before being stopped by a PIT mane
