STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — New York City residents in coastal neighborhoods are urged to take caution as there is high confidence that this weekend’s storms will cause coastal flooding.

“The coastal flooding is I think what concerns me,“ Alex DaSilva, lead hurricane expert with AccuWeather , told the Advance/SILive.com.

The threat of “significant coastal flooding” will extend from the Battery in Manhattan down south, impacting communities along east-facing beaches, especially those in New Jersey.

“It’s going to be a very prolonged event, hours and hours and hours, multiple high tide cycles of this wind coming out of the east or northeast just pounding on the coastline, so we do expect major flooding, especially in New Jersey,” DaSilva shared.
