EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — The inaugural Rhode Island Reading Festival kicks off at 10 a.m. on Saturday at the Providence Public Library.

The free event is open to the public and will feature a bilingual story hour, talks with authors and a community book swap.

Festival founder Zoë Mitchell joined 12 News at 4 Friday to share more about the event and the state of literacy in Rhode Island.
