WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - A 23-year-old man who pleaded guilty to charges in a church vandalism case that shocked the Wichita community is headed to prison, where he’s sentenced to serve nearly three years.
The Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office explained that following a sentencing hearing on Friday afternoon, a district court judge sentenced Michael Gonzalez to 34 months (two years, 10 months).
According to the Kansas Department of Corrections , Gonzalez has previous convictions in Saline County for criminal threat, criminal damage to property and burglary.
The mid-March burglary and vandalism to St. Patrick Catholic Church in the 2000 block of North Arkansas included, but wasn’t limited to, the burning of an American flag and hate speech spray-painted on the church.
