BOSTON —
Some federal workers are now being fired as the government shutdown drags on in its 10th day.
It is not immediately clear how many federal workers have received RIF – or reduction in force – notices, but the Office of Management and Budget says it will be "substantial."
Federal health workers and the Department of Education are among those affected.
On Friday, Gov. Maura Healey greeted and thanked TSA workers at Logan Airport while blasting the new job cuts.
"Society can't work, our economy can't function without the government operating, without having people in government doing the work," she said. "People got bills to pay, they've got mouths to feed, and rent to pay, and car payments and school payments, I mean, this is absolutely devastating."
