ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) - A former Ladue police officer is facing state discipline for what investigators called a “near-fatal mistake,” but the case highlights broader concerns about lengthy delays in police accountability proceedings.

The Missouri Attorney General’s office is seeking to discipline Julia Crews for a 2019 incident where she shot her service weapon instead of using her taser during an arrest at a Ladue Schnucks store. Crews now works as a bailiff in Jefferson County while the disciplinary case remains pending.

Ashley Fountain, the victim in the shooting, spoke exclusively to First Alert 4 Investigates about the incident.

“Why would she want to be a police officer if she hurt me that bad?” Fountain asked.
