A man has died while handcuffed by protective services officers at a Northcote train station after acting erratically while asking them for help.
The commuter asked the PSOs for assistance while on a train on Friday night, and he got off the train with the officers at Merri station.
The man lost consciousness and died at Merri station on Friday night, police say.
The man appeared “substance affected” and behaved erratically on the station platform, a police spokeswoman said.
“Protective service officers requested an ambulance and secured handcuffs on the man due to his increasing erratic behaviour,” she said.
The man, 63, became unresponsive about 9.45pm and the officers performed CPR, but he could not be revived.
