Veteran British actress Alex Kingston has revealed her battle with womb cancer last year for the first time.

The 62-year-old TV and stage star, who had a regular role in the medical drama ER and science fiction series Doctor Who , spoke publicly this week about being diagnosed with the disease 18 months ago.

“I had assumed that the way I was feeling was old age, and I just sort of accepted it,” she told Britain’s The Independent .

“I thought, ‘Okay, this is what it’s like to be in my 60s.’ But a lot of how I was feeling was to do with my illness.”

While Kingston said she had dealt with bloating and achiness in years past, it was blood in her urine that raised concerns about her health.

She saw a doctor but didn’t think it was cancer.
