News of a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas is bringing relief to Palestinian and Jewish communities in Toronto, but some say they are concerned the cessation of violence might not last.
The ceasefire began Friday, with both sides finally agreeing on a multi-phase plan to end the war in Gaza. The deal means the release of Israeli hostages and Palestinian prisoners.
Amir Haddad, a member of the Palestinian Youth Movement, a grassroots movement that organizes Palestinian and Arab young people to fight for Palestinian liberation, said he is excited at the prospect of a ceasefire but noted that it comes after two years of war.
Haddad said he also worries it may not last.
"Words are not enough," he said. "Our work here is not done. Nothing is guaranteed."
