The Riverside County Sheriff's Office says it is still actively investigating a deadly shooting that took the life of a 16-year-old high school football player earlier this year.
Nathan Vasquez of Menifee was shot and killed on May 9 while attending a house party on the 21000 block of Waite Street in Wildomar.
Vasquez and a friend were both hit by gunfire. That friend survived but Vasquez was pronounced dead at an area hospital.
Vasquez was a standout football player and track athlete at Paloma Valley High School. His mother, Allisa Staley, spoke to Menifee 24/7 earlier this year and described her son as being deeply shy yet very popular.
