TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) - This weekend’s expected rain stemming from the tropics could bring flooding at a tenuous time with the government shutdown.

13 Fact Finders have what you should know about three impacts on southern Arizonans.

The shutdown means that about 1,300 real estate closings per day cannot go through because they require flood insurance, and no National Flood Insurance Program policies can be issued.

That’s putting a lot of home closings on hold until the government reopens, and then there could still be a backlog.

If you already have federal flood insurance - and you’re due for a renewal, that can’t be processed during the shutdown. But the NFIP has granted a 30-day grace period but we are just 10 days into the shutdown.
