TEXARKANA, Texas (KSLA) - The City of Texarkana, Texas dedicated a new historical marker in downtown Friday (Oct. 10) to replace the previous one, which was stolen 10 years ago.
“For a long time, it was part of Texarkana’s history that was seemingly lost,” said Texarkana Historic Preservation Officer Matt Solomon.
The city says the original Wavell’s Colony historical marker, which was first installed in 1969, was stolen in 2015. The city held a ceremony Friday at noon to unveil the replacement marker, restoring an important piece of the city’s history.
“This replacement marker is more than just a sign, it’s a recognition of the settlers and stories that shaped our community,” said Solomon. “We are proud to preserve and honor Texarkana’s history for future generations.”
