WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - The Kansas Women, Infants, and Children Program, also known as WIC, will soon stop the direct shipping of special formula for infants, according to the Kansas Department of Health and Environment.
This program, designed for Kansas families, is being affected by the government shutdown.
Sedgwick County says it is preparing to approve a policy to support the WIC program for 60 more days if the government shutdown continues. The county expects this policy to take effect Oct. 13.
“It’s incredibly scary that the infrastructure that is WIC and other programs are on the chopping block,” said Sapphire Garcia, Executive Director at Kansas Birth Justice Society. “Many of the families that we see here are enrolled in WIC, and if WIC is no longer available to help with formul
