SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) -- Dale Chasing Hawk has been a school psychologist in the Sioux Falls School District for 18 years.

He helps elementary students in multiple schools who are struggling to learn.

His passion for education stems from his time as a student in Vermillion.

"I had three teachers that were very important to me, and it wasn't even just because of academics. It was the kind of things they did. My second-grade teacher, I forgot my lunch card one day and she shared her sandwich with me," Chasing Hawk.

Chasing Hawk was born on the Rosebud Indian Reservation.

He was both surprised and honored to be selected as this year's grand marshal for the Sioux Falls Native American Day Parade.
