LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Jefferson County Public Schools (JCPS) is attempting to resolve overcrowding at one east end school by redrawing a boundary line.

Echo Trail Middle School, which opened in 2023, is already at 114 percent capacity, according to JCPS District 7 Board Member Taylor Everett.

He said if enrollment continues at this rate, the capacity will rise to 133 percent by 2027.

“The principal every day just looks at 'where is the art class going to be at 2:30? We’re going to move the math class into the art room for an hour,'" Everett said. “If you get to 133 percent, you can’t even do that. You don’t have enough room to have a class.”

The district has proposed a boundary adjustment as the solution.
