WACO, Texas (KWTX) - A Texas law is providing opportunities for convicted individuals to challenge their cases when scientific evidence used against them has evolved or been discredited.

Most recently, it was used in the case of Robert Roberson to send him back to court for the murder conviction of his 2-year-old daughter, Nikki.

The junk science law creates a chance for people convicted of crimes involving scientific evidence to challenge those convictions.

“The junk science law creates a procedural pathway for individuals who have been convicted of crimes where that conviction involves some type of scientific evidence, it provides a pathway for them to challenge that,” criminal defense attorney Abelino Reyna said.
