Srinagar- When investigators began looking into the finances of a police cashier during his Bandipora tenure, they expected to find gaps in recordkeeping. What they discovered was an empire.

Peer Zada Mushkoor Ahmad Shah, a police inspector, previously posted as cashier at the District Police Office in Bandipora, had accumulated wealth that far exceeded his known income.

A secret verification launched by vigilance officers traced dozens of bank accounts, multiple plots of land, and a sprawling house.

According to the Anti-Corruption Bureau handout, Shah, a native of Ompora Budgam, owned 32 kanals and 6 marlas of land in Budgam, including a prime 17-kanal stretch in Sholipora Wudder.
