RICHMOND – In a championship showdown the team with the fewest mistakes usually comes out ahead.

That held true Friday night when Almont defeated host Richmond 35-14 in the battle between the two remaining unbeaten football teams in the Blue Water Area Conference.

A win against 2-5 North Branch next week will give the Raiders their third straight BWAC title.

“Championship games usually come down to turnovers,” said Almont coach James Leusby. “We had that fumble recovery. We had a pick. That changes the whole aspect of the game.

“We came out a little slow and picked it up in the second half. The defense was dialed in. The offense was blocking and running hard. It was a good old BWAC game,” added Leusby.
