SEATTLE -- The Detroit Tigers’ playoff run came to an end after an epic 15-inning winner-take-all game that had as many twists and turns as their roller-coaster 2025 season.

Jorge Polanco hit a walk-off single with the bases loaded to lead the Seattle Mariners to a 3-2 victory in Game 5 of the American League Division Series on Friday night, in front of an electric crowd of 47,025 that spent much of the two hours of extra innings on its feet.

Detroit cheated death repeatedly in extra innings but couldn’t escape in the 15th.

Reliever Tommy Kahnle gave up a single to J.P. Crawford, hit a batter and then intentionally walked the bases loaded. On a 3-2 count, Polanco lined a single past the drawn-in infield to right field.

For the first time since 2001, Seattle advances to the ALCS.
