A murder confession may lead to freedom for another man also charged with the crime. Payne County prosecutors charged Christopher Somers and Michael Ritter with the 2023 murder of 21-year-old Samuel Crawford.

The Noble County Sheriff's Office requested the assistance of the OSBI in a missing persons case. Stillwater resident Samuel Crawford was reported missing in late August, reportedly last seen in Morrison at Bob's Corner.

The state medical examiner confirmed in September that the remains found buried on a rural property in Payne County were identified as Crawford. Agents also found pieces of Crawford's truck scattered on the same property.

Somers was arrested and charged in Payne County with first-degree murder, desecration of a human corpse, and operating a chop shop.
